Breadmaking Class

(1 customer review)

$20.00

3 hours

Learn to make two kinds of bread — a simple quick bread and a more complicated risen loaf — using unique local Andean grains and ingredients. End by sitting down to enjoy your creations with herbal tea, and/ or take your loaves home with you.

Your teacher will be Zenobia, who grew up at Niños del Sol and is studying in Cusco to become a pastry chef. If you don’t speak Spanish, one of our younger girls will assist and serve as a translator for you.

Note to solo travelers: The minimum charge is $40, which allows for a donation to support the Children’s  Home as well as paying for your guide’s time and planning. If you’d like to do this tour solo, just register as if for two people. Thank you!

Description

All hikes, tours, and classes are led by friendly, experienced adolescent youth guides from Niños Del Sol Children’s Home.  Your payment, which is a tax-deductible donation in the United States, helps support the Niños Del Sol Children’s Home in Urubamba and our companion residence for college kids in Cusco.

Our adolescent and young adult Niños designed these programs on their own, guided by their lifelong interactions with tourists to the Sacred Valley. They’re learning business skills as well as practicing their English while they earn a part-time income and help support their home.

We are contacted by many tourists who want to visit our home, bringing gifts or offering the gift of their labor, but for kids, this is a better option. They are learning how to earn rather than passively receive, and they are meeting donors as equals, with something of value to offer in exchange for your donation. Thank you for supporting this program.

Zenobia cooked for our groups when we were in Peru in early 2019. All my group members just adored her — she’s very patient and kind and has a great sense of humor. A class with her would be so fun!
