Age: 14 Arrived at Casa: 2002 Urpi came to us at two years of age, malnourished, lacking in human touch, and no muscle tone due to lack of care from her severely troubled mother. Kia took her in, and soon it was evident that there was something also going on with Urpi’s developmental capabilities. She was eventually diagnosed with Autism and mild mental retardation. As the kids grow older and the Casa has become more and more focused on education and future independence, it has become obvious that we’re not properly positioned to care for her into adulthood. Urpi has a very challenging road ahead, but thankfully we have found a suitable placement for her at a facility in Lima where she has become settled and she seems to be doing well.
