Hair Cutting Ceremony

Recently, our little Gael (the son of Maria Flor) had his hair cutting ceremony, and we wanted to share it with you.

In the Andes, boys get their first haircut in a beautiful ceremony when they are 3-4 years old. The boy’s hair is braided in many little braids and each person connected to him gets to cut a braid while giving him a blessing for his entering into a new portal of his life.

Here is Gael having a flower bath with his hair in braids to prepare for the haircut.

The young man in the back is Alonso, a new addition to our family. He’s a Musician and Art Therapist who is beginning to work with the youth at Niños del Sol .

Ceremonies are a crucial part of life in the Andes, and we are thrilled to be able to share this moment with Maria Flor and Gael.

Always and forever, we are grateful to you, our Global Family of donors, for keeping this family together so all the Niños can grow into adulthood surrounded by a loving family of siblings and dedicated caretakers. Already the change you’ve chosen to make in the world is expanding into the next generation!
